G & J Care

G&J (Don't) Care

The most unprofessional, unempthatic, even dangerous company - Unfortunately being a carer for a period of time with them is the only way you realise how true this is.

Carers receive little training (unpaid), no support in and out of the job. Nothing towards travel or millage expenses. YYou will start at 6.45 in the morning and will not be finished until after 9pm. Also you will have X number of gaps through the day it works out you will only be paid for roughly 6 of those hours or less.

I had 1 year previous Care experience from about 5 years before. So I was not in any way current or practiced in any basic training required for working in clients homes.

I was told to come for training day before my first day out with the clients. I sat for almost 4 hours for the "trainers" to be ready as they sat at their desks mostly chatting and telling stories of their experiences with clients (most was to their amusement of clients with alcohol issues or dramatic arguments that has happened previous) After the long wait I was given a 15m run around of equipment and moving and handling and then handed a homemade moving and handling certificate. No first aid, medication, catheter or dementia training(all I have received and more in an intensive week long PAID course from my previous company)

This whole day of training and the travel of 50+ miles was unpaid. Their explanation for unpaid training is that its mandatory but free or we can be paid for it but then you have to pay back the company the money earned and then some...

I was out shadowing for half a day (shadowing a fellow new carer who had only started a week before) , met some of my clients but not all of them and then was left solo from then on.

In my time I seen many clients left without care, sometimes for days who were high risk to themselves or unmobile. Staff bullied into covering shifts so the manager on duty could stay at home. The office is extremely bitchy and uneffective.
If you care for your family AVOID

DONT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE

The owner is a bully and should not be allowed a company! No support for staff or clients. She ignores calls she knows will be troublesome and complaints are not documented! Staff do not get any training and staff turnover is the worst I've ever seen (says it all) she will rather leave clients without care than go out and cover herself (happened on many occasions where clients were left as much as 3 days with no care!!)

Stay Clear

Wouldn't waste you're time applying for any job advertised with G&J care. The manager tells nothing but lies from start to finish, you soon learn this within days of working for her and to top it all off she doesn't pay you, for what you have worked but if you do receive a pay from her you don't always get it on the day you are supposed to get it to be paid it could be days later. Avoid

TERRIBLE COMPANY TO WORK FOR

G & J Care advertised for carers for leslie and glenrothes I phoned got a interview the same day got the job and got induction training which no one gets paid for. I was sitting waiting for a start for 2 months to go out shadowing in a different area to give me hours which I appreciated but was told I would always be paired with a driver as i dont drive. I was given a lift there every shift but sometimes dropped off and to walk between service users. I alsoa had a 3 hour gap where I had to sit in a car park until teas as the other employees went home. I couldn't go home as couldnt travel on bus back and forth in time. When informing the manager that I would bo linger be able to work as there was no hours In the area I applied for, I then was due to be paid on the last Wednesday if the month and when wages did not go in I waited until lunchtime as other staff members said sometimes it was late in, when speaking to the office I was spoke to in a rude and abrupt manner and told they couldnt get peace to sort out finances as everyone kept phoning about therr wages but told they would be in later that day. I phoned back and was informed by a senior that wages would be paid the next day the wages then did not go in again and I requested support from Acas and I did phone again to say they were waiting in money to be released and they only managed to pay half the staff the day before. I have now applied and had interviews a d now been informed that G & J care have gave me a bad reference I am disgusted to have been treated this way for being honest and obviously distressed as I have a wife and four children to support. I left a perfectly good job to go into my dream job and this has left me unemployed disappointed a unemployable as been given a bad reference for leaving a job that was not organised. I hope that the company should learn from this and no other employee is treated the way I have been treated

Would never change, they are ++++++++++

They look after my gran, we had somebody from another home care provider looking after her, she was dirty looking when G & J care came in, they asked her what she would like, a nice bubble bath and an hour later and gran was back, not only that but they are highly trained and I recieved a call from Julie saying the carer thought gran had a urine infection had tested the ursine and she did, so antibiotics were given much sooner. The same carers go to gran week in and week out, on,y 3 of them but she loves them all and I like her trust them implicably
