Howson Care Centre

Still the best care home

I have done two other reviews for Howsons. David has now been in their care for over a year. I have been to see him today and he looks as good as he did 10 years ago before the onset of his dementia. Dare I say it, he looks happy and content.
Since leaving the care home at Nocton, he has put on 3.5 stone. Why, because they look after him and make sure he eats the lovely food they give him! The staff are lovely, nothing too much trouble for them and they always make me feel very welcome including my two border terriers. Today, the chef even gave them a sausage. I now only tend to go every three weeks as David has no idea who I am but, unlike the other homes, I know I do not have to check on his care. If there were any problems or he needed anything, they would contact me.
Once again, I cannot fault this home.

I AM SO PLEASED I FOUND THIS CARE HOME!

David, who has Alzheimer's, has been at Howsons since December 2014. At just 70 years old, he has advanced Alzheimer's, is very strong and can, if not approached properly, be aggressive. This is his fourth home and, by far, the best. I no longer feel that I have to keep checking that he is being cared for properly. He looks the best that I have seen him since moving to Howsons. He is shaven, well dressed, nails cut and clean even his ears kept hair free (this is so something no other home would do, I had to do it and I often wondered what would have happened if I had not been around).
After leaving his last home and spending time being assessed at Witham Court, I was told that I had to find him somewhere else. I would not let him return to his last care home as I did not feel he was safe there but, after viewing numerous Nursing Homes, none wanted to take him . His Social Worker recommended Howsons and I am so pleased she did.
David has now been at Howsons for nearly three months, is the most settled I haveseen him for a long time, he almost seems happy which makes me feel so much better.
I would not hesitate recommending them to care for your loved ones.

At last a Care Home I can trust

This is David' fourth care home and, by far, the best. In one he was starved and they appeared to be so caring, I was reluctant to send him here because the CQC did not give it a good write up but then what do they appear to know. When I complained about a previous care home they just ignored me! Upon visiting, I was amazed to see how clean and nice it was. David has now been there 2 months and is the most settled and happy I have seen him. He is clean, shaven and well dressed every time I see him even though they are not expecting me.
The staff seem genuine and I do not feel I have to keep "checking" on him now. By far the best out of the other 3 he has been in.
