Beaconville Nursing Home

Wonderful care

My mother is currently staying at Beaconville and I am so glad to have found it. There some terrible horror stories about care homes, but this place is amazing. The staff and nurses are so caring and patient as well as being well organised and respectful. They react immediately, and with a great deal of calmness, to any problems or situations. I visit almost every day and have nothing but praise for the level of care that is provided. All the staff, without exception work exceptionally hard and treat the residents with dignity.

The only criticism I have of Beaconville is the decor in some areas which could do with painting and recarpeting. Apart from that it's great and I enjoy my visits. It's changed my view completely on care homes and, in particular, those for people living with dementia. I am not afraid anymore of it happening to me because I know it is possible to live comfortably and be cared for without any fear of ill treatment .

Excellently Nursing Home

After very disappointing experiences with care homes in the South Hams area that claimed, misleadingly, to offer qualified care for advanced dementia sufferers, I found this wonderful Nursing Home. My husband was a resident for 22 months before he passed away and, even then, he was surrounded by concern and love. I can't praise it enough. The matron expects high standards of her staff and they deliver that fully. There is a pervasive atmosphere of quiet competence and attention to the residents as well as genuine friendship for visitors and family members.

Exceptionally good care.

Our mother was cared for at Beaconville during the final 20 months her life.
She had a number of physical problems resulting in extreme frailty as well
as memory loss and was confined to bed for most of her time there.
The care given by all members of staff was exceptional. Everyone we met at
Beaconville had a positive, warm caring attitude and the leadership was
strong and supportive to residents, staff and families.
We will always be grateful to Beaconville for doing a difficult and
demanding job so well and feel lucky to have found them at the necessary
time.
They come highly recommended.

Excellent Care

The matron and her team of staff live up to the high reputation they have earned as specialists in the care of people with dementia. They are well-trained, caring and sensitive to the needs of their residents who they treat with dignity and respect.
Staff spend time with residents, helping them to participate in activities that they enjoy and which help to keep them stimulated.
My Dad went to Beaconville after having to move from another care home (not a place I would recommend to anyone). Sadly, my Dad became ill with an infection and died at Beaconville last September. Throughout the short period of time he was there, staff were wonderful. During his illness I do not believe he could have received better care. As well as caring so well for my Dad, staff were also very sensitive and caring towards my sisters and me during Dad's last days. We were able to stay with him day and night and we felt reassured when we were not able to be there.

Excellent person-centred caring service provider

Our Mother was a resident at Beaconville for the last 20 months of her life. During that time she was visited daily by family/friends and all agreed that she was well cared for in a sensitive, respectful, professional and person-centred manner. Mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia and exhibited unpredictable and challenging behaviour which we feel was very well-managed by the Matron Anne and her well-trained team. From our experience we would recommend this Nursing Home.

Well managed and caring home

We struggled to find a quality provider for Mum - many places have been given glowing reports from the Quality Care Commission, but this was not the case. In some homes, my mother was left with bed sores and zombiefied as extra drugs were given to keep her quiet. However, this was not the case at Beaconville. Under excellent management, my mother was treated as a human and all her needs were catered for. She was warm, clean and well nourished. It took a worrying weight off the family.

The best available

My wife used Beaconville for day and respite care and finally as a resident between 1996 and December 2011. . The last six months she was completely bed-ridden. She went into residential care to attend to bed sores she had developed at home and it became obvious that the quality of the care and attention she was receiving was superb. The home is managed at the highest level, the care, love and support given by all staff to the patents and their family is a direct reflection of this quality.
