Reflections Nursery & Forest School in Worthing was judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted at the last three inspections in 2010, 2013 and 2014. The nursery won UK Nursery of the Year in 2009/10 (the only time we've entered the competition); judge, Wendy Scott said this about the nursery...
"Children have genuine choices and a lot of scope for exploration and expression in an engaging, beautiful and well-cared-for environment. Staff take children's ideas seriously, giving them plenty of time. Reflections is an exciting place to be in relation to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being of children and adults."
Wendy Scott - Former adviser to the Department for Education & Skills
Our nursery is two buldings next door to each other, one Regency and one gothic, both on three floors with loads of space, lots of light and huge gardens. We work hard on making the nursery environment inspiring by offering open-ended, natural and reclaimed resources for the children so they can add their imaginations and creativity.
Staff at Reflections make a point of listening to children's theories and giving them the opportunity to test their hypotheses because we believe that's the way they learn.
We would like to invite you to visit the nursery and see our approach for yourself.

You won't find a better nursery
Our boy went to reflections for nearly two years. Site moving we have struggled to find anything that even compares slightly to the experience he had at reflections. From the staff to the food and the forest school it's simply fantastic. We miss you!

We feel fortunate to have found Reflections
We feel fortunate to have found Reflections. We moved to Worthing from Brighton, and were very pleasantly surprised to find Reflections. While living in Brighton, we had toured many nurseries in Brighton and Hove, and I am comfortable saying that Reflections is better than any that we found there.
Our son was there for two years, from age two to age four, and he was very happy to be there. We sadly had to move away from Worthing due to my job, and taking our son out of Reflections was possibly the hardest part.

We were very happy with the care and attention our daughter received at Reflections. We went to work happy in the knowledge that she was being well looked after and having a lovely day with so many wonderful experiences on offer. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and clearly love working with the children. The facilities are fantastic, particularly the garden area! I would definitely recommend Reflections. We feel our daughter had a great pre school experience there!

Both my children went to reflections from around 9 months to starting school. I was the only person who looked after my children so looking for somewhere to match me was going to be a challenge. Reflections met all my criteria. Throughout their stay my children were very well cared for with true professionalism from every member of the team. Surroundings are beautiful and spacious and there philosophy is second to none. I have on many occasions recommended reflections and no one has been disappointed. Resources available to the children are fantastic. The food they are given is outstanding, what you would expect at a quality restaurant.
My children have had the best start in life. I only wish reflections had a school as both of my children would be attending.

Our son attended Reflections from 10 months of age until school. He was always well cared for and extremely well managed despite his multiple allergies. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there, his imagination was actively encouraged, enabling exploration of new ideas and themes. The outside space at Reflections is smazing and the aetilier work there is so creative, He also attended forest school in his last year at the nursery which really improved his physical, adventerous and leadership skills, he absolutely loved it!
We knew how much he enjoyed his time there because he was aways so proud to show us sround 'his nursery'. We couldnt have asked for a better start in life for him, or a better preparation for school.

Fantastic nursery who have given us many happy...
Our daughter started at 14 months until starting school. She was full time, 5 days a week from age 2. She (and we) enjoyed her time there hugely.
So many good things make up the positive experience Reflections offers:
- Communication to parents is fantastic, and the staff at all levels have been fun, engaging and inspiring.
- Forest School is amazing, and adds so much to the package. Almost a separate subject in itself.
- The garden is a huge bonus and they grow a lot of vegetables and really get a chance to be involved.
- Their use of artwork and materials is excellent - barely any 'preschool toys' are on offer - all much more about using your imagination to create your own toy or game from something else. Teamwork and negotiation is encouraged.
- Mealtimes are very well handled and manners are excellent. All food is homemade, very high quality and varied - something which was very important to us when we were looking for a nursery. She had all 3 meals a day there often and we never worried about a thing.
- The most unique thing though is how good they are at letting the children develop their own interests - and seeing them as individuals. They really allow them to follow their own paths - often Josie has been working on something for a fair period of time (weeks to even months) and when i asked if this is part of a specific project everyone is doing I find out it is just something she wanted to do and time is being found for her to concentrate on it - in her own way - with guidance as needed; despite having an entire group of children to entertain. There are lots of examples of this with other children too - and it has become particularly prevalent in the later years - as the children become so much more independent. It is fascinating to watch - and the other children also seem to learn from each other - sometimes meaning a 'craze' kicks off where everyone decides they want to create their own version of whatever it is.
Our 2nd baby will be starting at 7 months!

Brilliant! So much fun and very educational
My two daughters started Reflections from babies and stayed right up till they started primary school. They both loved it and still go on about it even now they're 7 & 5. The staff are caring and lovely but can be strict when required. My youngest had speech issues and I fould the nursery very helpful. They knew who to contact at the "first team" to get her the individual care and help she needed. They discussed everything with me and helped me though the process for which I am eternally grateful. Both my girls found the Forrest school very exciting and I always enjoyed picking them up after a session in the woods. They always smelled of camp fires, were covered in mud and full of stories of their adventures. They now have a lot of fond memories of these mornings with their friends.
Having now started school I can now see that Reflections gave them all the tools they needed. In class they make new friends easily, listen, learn and join in. They also know the importance of being kind to others, wait their turn and are polite. When play time comes they come up with new ideas and can let go and have loads of fun. Thanks Reflections!

Truly a Great Nursery
My daughter was at Reflections from the age of 5 months to 4 and a half years. She loved the indoor space, freedom to express what she would like to do during the day. Plenty of outside activities. My daughter also went on the Forest School trips for a year and loved the outdoors and the exploring. The food was always of a good quality and it varied. The staff give you feedback each time you pick your child up so you are always aware of how they are and what they have been doing. This nursery is worth every penny.

Quite Simply the best
My daughter attended Reflections from age 15 months through to 4.3 years of age. It was quite simply the best start we could provide her in life - every element of her care was simply amazing.
The project based environment where the kids lead the learning is one of the keys to the success of the nursery. The kids are engaged and involved in what they are doing which creates a natural curiosity. The resources are amazing yet I can't remember seeing anything Fischer Price or such there. It's all stuff that can be used to drive the childrens creativity and imagination.
The staff are well trained, interested in what they are doing and good at it. The children bond with the adults and there is a climate of joint experiences with the adults as excited about the kids development as they or the parents are. I did not meet one staff member who did not impress me. The incredibly high standards are maintained by the room leaders and Yvonne Barr.
The food provided to the kids is prepared on the premises and is a high quality. It is also plentiful with regular opportunities throughout the day for the children to eat. They will not go hungry!
Another key opportunity offered to the kids is Forest School. I can't recommend this highly enough - the kids develop social and teamwork skills and well as getting a couple of hours a week to run around in a privately rented wood. Their confidence grows as does their ability to manage risky play.
I am trying to think of a downside to sending your kid there but I can't. It really is that good. You might look around and see that it costs a bit more than other local nurseries but for me, the opportunity to have my child at one of the best nurseries in the country put pay to any reservations I had.
Outstanding nursery and recommended without reservation.

Cannot rate highly enough - absolutely excellent
My daughter attended Reflections for three years; she has just started Reception. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this nursery is. First, the staff and practitioners genuinely care about the children. They are constantly seeking ways to improve, and to stimulate the children. The project-based work is great for the children, as they can explore a range of things associated with a topic, rather then being introduced briefly. The materials used in the nursery are natural, meaning the children really use their imaginations and cooperate to play and create. The children are given the opportunity to explore and learn about what their own interests. Forest School gives them the opportunity and freedom to explore nature. Reflections' philosophy has given my child a strong sense of independence, curiosity, and confidence. The food is amazing, and my child loved the vegetable garden, which I think has helped her eat her veg! When we started there in September 2011, we didn't find the cost significantly higher than other nurseries, when food and nappies were factored in - I'm not sure if this is still true. I couldn't have asked for a better nursery for my kid, and we are very sad to have graduated.

An excellent nursery, can't recommend it highly...
Both my children have attended Reflections, and loved it. The setting is ideal, with such a wonderful outside area and the staff are amazing. My children are quite different and I felt confident that their needs were being met and my expectations exceeded. The staff worked hard to ensure that the children were well looked after, and explored a range of topics to encourage learning in so many different areas. My youngest attended Forest School, which is without doubt one of the greatest experiences we could hope for him to enjoy every week - he is off to school in September and is still asking me when he will be going to Forest School again! I fear that after such a wealth of 'outdoor' learning, school will seem quite hemmed in. Both my children were sad to leave, as was I. I can't recommend Reflections highly enough.

Outstanding care from genuine carers.
My son started attending Reflections when he was just 2. He didn't want to leave mummy and daddy at first but the staff there were excellent and paid him special attention in the mornings when we arrived to help him settle, which happened very quickly. He has just left to go to first school, so has been through most of the stages at reflections, and I have been overwhelmed with how much care and attention to detail the staff have for each and every child.
My son was initially a fussy eater, but it was no problem for them to cater for this and he had an alternative that we knew he would like, on the occasion the menu was something that he didn't. After a while, they asked if we would like them to start to introduce him again to the foods and see if he would eat them, but have his alternative ready as a standby in case he didn't eat it. Now he is eating everything that he wouldn't eat before and mealtimes are so much easier.
The support that they give the parents whilst toilet training and in all aspects of learning is outstanding. They worked closely with us when we had specific activities that we wanted our son to develop and they have helped our son develop into the wonderful little boy that is starting 'big school' next week!
I can't praise Reflections enough for everything they do and the exceptionally high standard to which they do it.

Our son Adam has just left Reflections after three happy years there. The staff are excellent and the nursery is constantly evolving, with room layouts changed to match the children's interests. Forest school is an amazing experience and the weekly photo diaries sent to the parents let you see which tree your child has mastered this week. The nursery building and grounds are huge and well kept. As the price includes three meals a day, two snacks and all nappies, creams etc, we consider it to be great value for money, particularly given the quality of food prepared fresh daily by the onsite chefs. We can't recommend Reflections highly enough ... and often do!

I really recommend this nursery
My son started at Reflections at 10 months old and has just left there aged 4 for school. He has skipped straight into school without a backward glance which is a testament to the confidence he has gained at Reflections. I choose this nursery because I liked the fact that there was no separate room that the babies slept in they all stayed in the same room where they played. It was very open which felt safer to me than some nurseries that had small dark rooms where the babies slept in on their own. I also liked that there were baskets everywhere with things like pine cones and everyday objects to stimulate them and their imagination. They have different rooms set up for different activities like a sand room, dressing up room, art room where when he joined they were making perfume! The garden also is amazing. They grow their own vegetables and play outside rain or shine. He even made chutney one day! Even the babies go outside which is so important I think.
I also recommend Forest School which is a chance for the children to go to the woods to learn and play. It broke up the full day my son was there nicely and he loved it.
The staff are friendly and I always felt relaxed they were looking after him. The couple of times he was unwell they phoned me immediately and I know he was safe. He loved going which I think says it all. I now have another son which I will be sending there soon as well.

The activities on offer have been wonderful and the garden is a great space for children with a lot of opportunity for fresh air and exercise. Forest School is excellent and my son grew in confidence from his weekly trips to the woods.
I would highly recommend Reflections to others, they are constantly striving to improve the experience of the children who attend and I am confident that they will continue to do so in years to come. My son was very sorry to leave.
