Description

Reflections Nursery & Forest School in Worthing was judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted at the last three inspections in 2010, 2013 and 2014. The nursery won UK Nursery of the Year in 2009/10 (the only time we've entered the competition); judge, Wendy Scott said this about the nursery...

"Children have genuine choices and a lot of scope for exploration and expression in an engaging, beautiful and well-cared-for environment. Staff take children's ideas seriously, giving them plenty of time. Reflections is an exciting place to be in relation to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being of children and adults."
Wendy Scott - Former adviser to the Department for Education & Skills

Our nursery is in a lovely Regency building on three floors with loads of space, lots of light and a huge garden. We work hard on making the nursery environment inspiring by offering open-ended, natural and reclaimed resources for the children so they can add their imaginations and creativity.

Staff at Reflections make a point of listening to children's theories and giving them the opportunity to test their hypotheses because we believe that's the way they learn.

We would like to invite you to visit the nursery and see our approach for yourself.

Reflections Nursery

Innovative and Genuine Care Setting

Having had two children in Reflections our experience has always been positive. The team are great at communicating and you really feel you are joint caring. from weaning to toilet training to learning preschool skills, all the reflections team are consistent and respectful of individual wishes. The spaces inside and outside are stimulating and engaging. Hand on heart it's been the best start for my 2 children who are now both enjoying and engaging well at school. Thank you Reflections...

Truly a Great Nursery

My daughter was at Reflections from the age of 5 months to 4 and a half years. She loved the indoor space, freedom to express what she would like to do during the day. Plenty of outside activities. My daughter also went on the Forest School trips for a year and loved the outdoors and the exploring. The food was always of a good quality and it varied. The staff give you feedback each time you pick your child up so you are always aware of how they are and what they have been doing. This nursery is worth every penny.

Excellent and inventive nursery

The best nursery we saw by far and provided excellent care and support for my daughter. The forest school was wonderful and created a love of nature and adventure. Staff delivered personalised support and each nursery worker was superb in their work. The communication from the nursery was effective, timely, and friendly.

Quite Simply the best

My daughter attended Reflections from age 15 months through to 4.3 years of age. It was quite simply the best start we could provide her in life - every element of her care was simply amazing.

The project based environment where the kids lead the learning is one of the keys to the success of the nursery. The kids are engaged and involved in what they are doing which creates a natural curiosity. The resources are amazing yet I can't remember seeing anything Fischer Price or such there. It's all stuff that can be used to drive the childrens creativity and imagination.

The staff are well trained, interested in what they are doing and good at it. The children bond with the adults and there is a climate of joint experiences with the adults as excited about the kids development as they or the parents are. I did not meet one staff member who did not impress me. The incredibly high standards are maintained by the room leaders and Yvonne Barr.

The food provided to the kids is prepared on the premises and is a high quality. It is also plentiful with regular opportunities throughout the day for the children to eat. They will not go hungry!

Another key opportunity offered to the kids is Forest School. I can't recommend this highly enough - the kids develop social and teamwork skills and well as getting a couple of hours a week to run around in a privately rented wood. Their confidence grows as does their ability to manage risky play.

I am trying to think of a downside to sending your kid there but I can't. It really is that good. You might look around and see that it costs a bit more than other local nurseries but for me, the opportunity to have my child at one of the best nurseries in the country put pay to any reservations I had.

Outstanding nursery and recommended without reservation.

Cannot rate highly enough - absolutely excellent

My daughter attended Reflections for three years; she has just started Reception. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this nursery is. First, the staff and practitioners genuinely care about the children. They are constantly seeking ways to improve, and to stimulate the children. The project-based work is great for the children, as they can explore a range of things associated with a topic, rather then being introduced briefly. The materials used in the nursery are natural, meaning the children really use their imaginations and cooperate to play and create. The children are given the opportunity to explore and learn about what their own interests. Forest School gives them the opportunity and freedom to explore nature. Reflections' philosophy has given my child a strong sense of independence, curiosity, and confidence. The food is amazing, and my child loved the vegetable garden, which I think has helped her eat her veg! When we started there in September 2011, we didn't find the cost significantly higher than other nurseries, when food and nappies were factored in - I'm not sure if this is still true. I couldn't have asked for a better nursery for my kid, and we are very sad to have graduated.

A Fantastic Nursery

My daughter Darcey attended the nursery for just over 3 years and I can't praise the staff at Reflections enough. They all have a passion for their job which shines through in the care they provide. Forest school is a wonderful experience and increased Darcey's confidence in preparation for big girl school. I would without hesitation recommend Reflections

An excellent nursery, can't recommend it highly...

Both my children have attended Reflections, and loved it. The setting is ideal, with such a wonderful outside area and the staff are amazing. My children are quite different and I felt confident that their needs were being met and my expectations exceeded. The staff worked hard to ensure that the children were well looked after, and explored a range of topics to encourage learning in so many different areas. My youngest attended Forest School, which is without doubt one of the greatest experiences we could hope for him to enjoy every week - he is off to school in September and is still asking me when he will be going to Forest School again! I fear that after such a wealth of 'outdoor' learning, school will seem quite hemmed in. Both my children were sad to leave, as was I. I can't recommend Reflections highly enough.

Outstanding care from genuine carers.

My son started attending Reflections when he was just 2. He didn't want to leave mummy and daddy at first but the staff there were excellent and paid him special attention in the mornings when we arrived to help him settle, which happened very quickly. He has just left to go to first school, so has been through most of the stages at reflections, and I have been overwhelmed with how much care and attention to detail the staff have for each and every child.

My son was initially a fussy eater, but it was no problem for them to cater for this and he had an alternative that we knew he would like, on the occasion the menu was something that he didn't. After a while, they asked if we would like them to start to introduce him again to the foods and see if he would eat them, but have his alternative ready as a standby in case he didn't eat it. Now he is eating everything that he wouldn't eat before and mealtimes are so much easier.

The support that they give the parents whilst toilet training and in all aspects of learning is outstanding. They worked closely with us when we had specific activities that we wanted our son to develop and they have helped our son develop into the wonderful little boy that is starting 'big school' next week!

I can't praise Reflections enough for everything they do and the exceptionally high standard to which they do it.

Fantastic nursery!

Our son Adam has just left Reflections after three happy years there. The staff are excellent and the nursery is constantly evolving, with room layouts changed to match the children's interests. Forest school is an amazing experience and the weekly photo diaries sent to the parents let you see which tree your child has mastered this week. The nursery building and grounds are huge and well kept. As the price includes three meals a day, two snacks and all nappies, creams etc, we consider it to be great value for money, particularly given the quality of food prepared fresh daily by the onsite chefs. We can't recommend Reflections highly enough ... and often do!

A very forward-thinking Nursery

Our son Joshie very much enjoyed his years at Reflections, and especially Forest School. Apart from giving him the chance to socialise with his peers, he learnt a great deal, and developed into a very well rounded, inquisitive boy. Excellent preparation for his early school years and the future.

We would definitely recommend Reflections to anybody.

Our daughter went to Reflections for 2 years and only left because we moved away. She started at 9 months old in the baby room and I would say she enjoyed every minute of it. The staff throughout the nursery are brilliant and I always felt comfortable to leave our daughter there. They have got a great outdoor area which the children love and most important the practitioners seem to actually care!!! Very important to us. I would not hesitate to recommend this nursery to anyone.

Reflections, An Excellent Nursery

Both my son (now 7yrs) and daughter (5yrs) attended reflections part time from the age of about 11 months. During this time, I have seen the nursery continually improve facilities and opportunities for the children to develop and learn. Their Garden is amazing and both my children really enjoyed forest school. The staff are incredibly friendly, taking the time to get to know the children and really listening to them. From my experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Reflections Nursery. Both my children have left confident and settled very quickly into school.

I really recommend this nursery

My son started at Reflections at 10 months old and has just left there aged 4 for school. He has skipped straight into school without a backward glance which is a testament to the confidence he has gained at Reflections. I choose this nursery because I liked the fact that there was no separate room that the babies slept in they all stayed in the same room where they played. It was very open which felt safer to me than some nurseries that had small dark rooms where the babies slept in on their own. I also liked that there were baskets everywhere with things like pine cones and everyday objects to stimulate them and their imagination. They have different rooms set up for different activities like a sand room, dressing up room, art room where when he joined they were making perfume! The garden also is amazing. They grow their own vegetables and play outside rain or shine. He even made chutney one day! Even the babies go outside which is so important I think.

I also recommend Forest School which is a chance for the children to go to the woods to learn and play. It broke up the full day my son was there nicely and he loved it.

The staff are friendly and I always felt relaxed they were looking after him. The couple of times he was unwell they phoned me immediately and I know he was safe. He loved going which I think says it all. I now have another son which I will be sending there soon as well.

Excellent Nursery

My son has recently left Reflections to attend school having been there since he was 10 months old. I cannot praise the staff enough for the care they have shown him and he has adored them in return. The activities on offer have been wonderful and the garden is a great space for children with a lot of opportunity for fresh air and exercise. Forest School is excellent and my son grew in confidence from his weekly trips to the woods.
I would highly recommend Reflections to others, they are constantly striving to improve the experience of the children who attend and I am confident that they will continue to do so in years to come. My son was very sorry to leave.

I found the staff to be very helpful. It was amazing to watch our little girl grow and develop those vital social skills by interacting with with lots of other children. The outdoor garden space is just fantastic and so much has been added to this area since our little girl started.

An inspiring nursery

Amelie enjoyed Reflections from the day she started until her last day when she left for 'big school'. She has become a confident, sociable, curious, creative little human being and that's exactly what we hoped for her to be prepared for the next step. The garden and building is AMAZING and inspiring, she loved being outdoors there. She loved all the staff and they were always very easy to talk to. A big thumbs up from us!

Inspirational nursery

My son attended Reflections from the age of one until he started school. The minute I walked into the nursery I knew it was the place where I could happily leave my son; the friendly, relaxed atmosphere is the first thing that you notice, all the staff are caring and professional.
Reflections allows your child to be themselves and my son has certainly experienced many different things that other nurseries do not offer. My son loves to be outside and the wonderful garden has allowed him to do so as and when he wants; a beautiful water feature has just been completed which was a project the children were involved in. When the children are older they have the chance to attend Forest School where they go into the forest learning how to build dens and make camp fires in a safe environment.
Reflections communicates very well with parents in many different ways and will always listen to comments and concerns; we built up a great relationship with Reflections who are like an extended family to us.

Perfect Early Years Care

Reflections nursery have provided excellent care for my son from age ten months right through to his starting school. Through each stage of his development they have tailored their care to his needs and personal attributes as well as providing exceptional facilities. The staff are all clearly well trained and well chosen and my son has formed close relationships with a number of carers/ teachers. The nursery also offers a number of facilities above and beyond the norm - specialist creative staff and forest school to name but two. The forest school facilities have taught my son a mountain of skills (problem solving; group and creative play; independance to name but a few) not to mention being the most fun you can have EVER !!!!! - and lets face it, what are the early years for if not to have fun. I am sorry to see him leave but am sure they have equipped him with all the skills necessary to move ahead in the world. Brilliant nursery - can't praise it enough.

Excellent Nursery

Our twins attended Reflections nursery from August 2010 through to August 2013. From the very outset we always felt that they were safe and well provided for by all staff members. The communication between the nursery and parents is excellent, keeping you up to date with all the various activities and events, and detailed specific information regarding your child. We always felt that we could contact the nursery at any time to raise any questions or concerns and we would receive a detailed response.

The twins excelled from the outset and their social development combined with educational development was increased and it was noticeable when compared to children who didn't attend nursery or other nurseries.

They started in toddler room, transitioning to Preschool 1 and then eventually Preschool 2 in preparation for starting Primary school. At every transition, we were informed and it was discussed with us and every child is individual. They only move the children when they feel that the children are ready for the next stage, never pushing the children in a way that is detrimental.

The children are the primary focus, and they are always looking for ways to develop the children's experiences. The garden alone provides many opportunities with a water feature, greenhouse which the children are involved with, sand area, play house, wildlife walk, the list goes on. My children always wanted to be in the garden.

What probably stands out the most is the genuine affection that ALL of the staff from Kitchen to Management have for the children.

We would wholeheartedly recommend Reflections and have done on numerous occasions to friends of ours.

To sum it up: Caring, Safe, Developmental, Communicative, Reliable.

The place to be !

Thomas spent 3 wonderful years at Reflections allowing him to live everything a child can dream to live at that age. His favorite activities: Forest school, to do gardening with the garden atelierista and play outside in the marvelous big garden. This place is a paradise for a child who can explore a lot of concepts by himself. To sum up, I will repeat the words of Thomas' teacher: "He is a very creative and imaginative boy." Reflections definitely contributed to nurture this creativity. MERCI++

Friendly and creative care

My daughter had a fantastic time at Reflections. At Forest School, children go to a local forest to learn all about the natural environment. While with me she had never been a risk taker and wouldn't walk very far. Once she had been attending Forest School for a few months I saw a big change, she became more physical, was more eager to climb trees, hold worms, walk round the park with me and get muddy! Martin is a fantastic leader of the Forest School programme and the Reggio Emilia approach.
