Smithfield House Children's Nursery

Excellent City Based Nursery

Our son attended Smithfield House Childrens Nursery for almost 2 years, until he started school. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at the nursery and misses the staff he tells us.
The management is good and Janet is excellent dealing with all the children and shows her wealth of experience. We were looking for a city based nursery within walking distance from work and we were happy we chose Smithfield House Childrens Nursery.

Excellent the best of the best

The nursery is one of the best in the city. The care they provide is for my daughter was the best - exactly like leaving her with family.

There is a mixture of activities including educational and learning through play. The progress my daughter was documented by an online app which was easy to use. My daughter loved playing in Smithfield gardens her weekly walks around St Paul's and over Millennium bridge. My daughter went to barbican library for her daily story time and played by the barbican fountains.

The communication links between the nursery and parent is excellent - It's clear and concise and there are always updates about the nursery.

The food menu had healthy treat and a well balanced and mixture of breakfast lunch and tea. My daughter enjoyed the meals and loved the good mixtures of foods available.

The staff at rhe nursery are hardworking and really love and care for the children. They genuinely want to work with the children to develop them. My daughter was more then ready to move onto reception. The nursery ensured she knew the full alphabet the numbers read simple words and spell her name.

My daughter has the best memories of the nursery and has made some excellent friends for life. We miss them so much and thank them for looking caring and loving the most precious person in out life.

A Fantastic Nursery

Our son attended Smithfield House from 8 months old until he was 2 years old. Having a nursery that was within walking distance to my office meant that my transition back to work was made easier and the loving support from all the staff - especially Janet and Gail - ensured that I went to work happy, knowing that Thomas was happy and well looked after.

Thomas absolutely thrived at Smithfield House and we were thrilled to receive the emails on what he had been up to during the day. He made lots of friends and formed close bonds with the staff members who were all so caring.

A change in jobs and a new house meant that we decided to move Thomas' nursery and although he really enjoys where he now goes he does still speak about Smithfield House and we will always be grateful for the experience it provided - it has definitely contributed in making him our sociable little boy that never stops talking!

A nurturing environment

Our son attended Smithfield from the age of 8.5 months to 20 months. The staff in the baby room created a nurturing environment for all the babies and there were always plenty of fun activities, cooking, messy play on offer. Once he had settled in, our son was always happy to go to his carers on handover, and he was always handed back to us clean, well fed and happy. We couldn't have asked for more.

The facilities were well set up for looking after babies, and lack of outdoor space was compensated for by regular trips out to St Paul's, Millenium Bridge, local parks.

The management team were very hands on, and knew every child's name, and character.

We were very sorry to move nurseries, only doing so due to a move out of London.

An excellent nursery

My daughter began attending Smithfield House when she was just under 6 months old. I went to see a number of nurseries before Amelie was born. I loved the space that the children had at Smithfield House and was very impressed by the facilities. It was certainly the best nursery that I saw. In addition, Gail and Janet were extremely accommodating in providing us with more than one opportunity to see the nursery and were extremely flexible, going the extra mile to enable my husband to see the nursery when it would usually be shut, which was very much appreciated. Now Amelie is at nursery, Gail and Janet continue to make things as smooth as possible for us and really understand that life as a barrister is, at times, unpredictable.

Our daughter is extremely happy at nursery. She loves all of the staff and has a big smile as soon as she arrives. She has settled really well and from the start we felt confident leaving her at nursery knowing that she would receive excellent care. She enjoys her days at nursery. The fact that there is a sensory room (which I already knew she enjoyed from visiting one in our local neighbourhood) and undertake activities with the children means that she is stimulated and happy. Knowing that Amelie is happy and secure has made my transition back to work so much easier than it would have been otherwise. In addition, communication between staff and parents is excellent with a report at the end of each day of what Amelie has been up to. I feel very lucky to have found Smithfield House.

A kind and caring environment for children

Our daughter attended Smithfield House nursery for just over two years. It was the first time she had been to nursery so we were a little apprehensive, but the staff and children were really welcoming and supportive. She really enjoyed her time there and the nursery takes advantage of the facilities on their doorstep, with regular visits to the Museum of London and Barbican library. It's a friendly, safe and stimulating environment and we would recommend Smithfield House to other parents. We will miss their Christmas party, which was always good fun!

Fantastic central nursery

My son started Smithfields at 10 months old till 3 years of age. Janet and Gail took it upon themselves to make me feel very reassured about leaving my baby in capable hands. The staff genuinely care for the babies and kids as their own.
I have had the security that my child's development is achieved by constant documentation and care. A lovely warm environment has been created for the children. It is very clean, organised and the use of child friendly tools have been well thought out.
There is a family feel within the establishment and I will never forget how Gail and Janet have gone out of their way to be so supportive. This is really a fantastic establishment which is perfectly placed in the heart of the City. I highly recommend this nursery as everyone is very accommodating and understanding of a child and parents needs. Well done Smithfields!

An Excellent Nursery for Babies

We received excellent childcare for our daughter from Smithfield House Nursery. The staff are well trained, caring and professional at all times. The baby room team are very experienced at maintaining and creating new schedules for babies. There is a real focus on nurture and development. The children are treated with much care and attention. We liked the continual communication between staff and parents. We were encouraged to keep in touch and regularly update the team on our daughters needs and development day to day and week to week.

This nursery has filled us with confidence and we would not hesitate to recommend Smithfield House to any parent wanting childcare support for a baby, toddler or child.

Homely, nurturing, happy nursery

Our son has been attending Smithfield nursery for three years from 9 months old. From our first meeting with Janet & Gail, it has been such a pleasure dropping him off every day, knowing he was happy and busy blossoming, playing and learning with his lovely pal, careers & teachers.
The activities are varied, fun & stimulating, from musical movement sessions, to museum trips, library outings, picnics, as well as painting, baking, team games & crafts. This variety of experiences has really developed his confidence, social and language skills.
I can't speak highly enough of our experience. Our son had some food idiosynchrocies due to allergies until he was 2 & they supported him discreetly through this. He has just blossomed here & we are eternally grateful to Janet, Gail & the staff for all their kindness.

What a wonderful experience - not just for me as a parent but also for my son who loves it there.
The staff are completely reliable and I never have to worry about my son whilst I am at work.
The nursery use an online learning log to chart progress of my son and I find this a valuable tool - I can watch uploaded videos and photos for updates and the nursery communicate well using this tool.
There are plenty of activities that occupy the children. I wish I could go!

Warm, friendly and FLEXIBLE

Gail & Janet are two warm, wonderful ladies who genuinely care about the children (and parents) using their nursery. My son Tom started when he had just turned one and stayed for a year. The only reason we left is we moved home. Tom developed some really special relationships with some of his carers. The flexibility the nursery were able to offer me as a freelancer was incredible and made my return to work possible. I am pretty sure the level of flexibility is unique to smithfield house and is a reflection of Gail & Janet's real appreciation of how hard it is to be a working parent.

Can't recommend highly enough

My daughter started at Smithfield House when she was seven months old and I was naturally concerned whether any nursery could give her the standard of care that I felt I could. From my first visit to the nursery, I instantly felt comfortable about leaving her in their care. The staff are warm and welcoming, while remaining professional, they maintain high standards throughout the nursery and have always been generous with their time for me and my daughter. She has loved her key workers in each room and they are clearly fond of her too. I've also appreciated the daily reports I received, and more recently, the online journal with photos and reports.
My daughter settled from day one and I can honestly say I've never had a moment's concern with her care. She remained at Smithfield until a month ago, aged 3.5, as we've relocated to Australia. As I start the search for new childcare here, I am very aware that a new nursery has a high bar to reach. We'll miss Smithfield very much and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Great nursery caring staff in modern environment

Our 4 month old started at smithfield as it was close to my work. The staff were so reassuring and listened /indulged my concerns. One great feature is the online learning journey where they share photos and updates with you on a regular basis. We only left as we moved house and needed a closer nursery. My daughter was there until 9 months and we were sad to move her.

A lovely nursery

My daughter started going to Smithfield Nursery when she was 10 months old and settled very quickly. The staff are great with the babies and clearly have a lot of affection for them. I found the nursery to be more spacious than average and the sensory room in particular is great for little ones. I enjoyed reading about my daughter's day outs to the Museum of London, Millennium Bridge etc. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Smithfield Nursery to anyone considering where to send their child.

Excellent nursery

I had my two year old in Smithfield as i worked locally. Unlike when he was at his previous nursery, i never worried about him at all. The staff clearly love the children and would continue to play and interact with them once they had finished work, my son adored his key worker and would kiss her spontaneously. The nursery has an amazing atmosphere and is really well resourced, we were taken aback on our first visit by how enticing it was for children, our son wandered off to investigate on our first ever visit and didnt even bother following us, he was too engrossed with the place. The management are really supportive of parents, always give you time for your concerns, even if they are nothing to do with the nursery. You get clear and thorough feedback at the end of every day. I nearly didnt interview this nursery due to the cost, which seemed high, but once we had (i wanted to compare to other nurseries) we found it hard to justify not putting our son in, he responded to the place so instantly. It was something i never regretted, and the nursery even helped us sort out some funding support when they realised we were struggling. I cant speak highly enough of the place, we have been in three nurseries and i have never felt as happy with how staff treat my son as i was at smithfield, its a lovely place for children, my son used to run in without looking back. I was very sad that he had to leave when i was made redundant and the nursery wasnt local any more.

My daughter has been at Smithfield house nursery since she was 9 months old she is now 2. She receives great care at this nursery and always has lots of fun. The owners and staff are good at reporting to us what a gets up to on a daily basis and this often includes brilliant activities like visits to the city of London museum, walks to the millennium bridge or a visit from an adopted police horse.

Children's nursey

Rude unfriendly staff. Was being billed for nursery sessions even after my child left. Requested a refund, but got no where. No outside area for children to play in. And is underground too. Meals given to children were inadequate. Advise against using this nursery, there are others around the area with much better facilities. And an outside play area!

Amazing nursery in the City

After starting our son at Smithfield's last autumn, I was quite worried about him "settling in". However, he not only settled in without a problem, he often asks to go to "school" even on weekends! He absolutely loves going to nursery to play and loves the attention that the staff give him. The staff and owner are incredible and always liaise with us over any developmental issues/milestones. We know our son has had a great, interesting day in a beautiful, safe setting.

Great staff, great location

This is a brilliant nursery which we'd highly recommend. The staff are professional, helpful and most importantly, love working with the kids, which they do with lots of patience and understanding. They treat each child as an individual, giving them lots of opportunities to learn and grow. There are lots of activities, indoors and outdoors. The children are regularly taken for walks, to the playground, to the Museum of London or one of the libraries around the City.
