Fire Station Community Nursery

Book - Cover

My son has been attending this nursery for nearly a year now. I admit that initially I was a little put off buy the facilities. I agree that the place needs a lick of paint. The toys are perhaps a little worn. But as a parent who sees that good loving care is more important than shiny things I couldn't recommend this nursery more. The women that look after my little one love him very much and are always mindful to keep me informed of anything that they think I might find helpful. They are really good fun and work very hard to give our kids a loving environment. My son seems very happy.

I am working with my friends to help to make the place look better and freshen the space up as I completely understand that as a visitor your first impressions are of a worn space.

But I am confident that with the new management team and with the communities backing we can help to make the place shine as much as the women that look after our little ones.

Wonderful to watch this nursery grow

Having moved to Stoke Newington from Swiss Cottage when I was seven months pregnant, I was advised instantly to view/enrol my unborn child into a nursery immediately if I wanted to secure a 'good' nursery place for my son (as I intended to go back to work part time when he was around 6months).

I looked around the local nurseries and was overwhelmed with the wonderful choices available.

As I am self employed I was looking for something affordable and obviously somewhere my son could play, be safe and learn.

When I first looked around TFSN I must admit I was a tad bit snooty. The space was well in need of a lick of paint, the toys looked like they had seen better days but the children and staff were wonderful. After my first impressions (mainly aesthetic) I noticed there was something quite charming about this community nursery, and the prices were unbeatable.

So I enrolled my rather clingy wonderful baby and 8 months later could not be happier with the level of care and love that has been showered on my son.

I have witnessed many changes in the nursery over the last few months. New management has taken over, the staff have almost taken it over as a democracy. There primary aim to get the nursery and educational levels up to the best they can, and that the children deserve.

Firstly on the aesthetics I have managed to get incredible decorators, and artists to donate time to give the nursery a beautiful make over. The staff are building a sensory room and redesigning the toddler room this summer.

The staff are all working to lift the level of care given to the children and I feel proud to have watched this nursery grow from strength to strength this last few months.

And I have one very happy little boy that waves me off in the mornings when I leave for work with a big smile on his face. Priceless.

What a shabby nursery

I dont know how such a poor provider of care reached a 3 in their OFSTED report which means satisfactory, there is no way they have progressed from level 4 in 2011 which is inadequate, they rightly deserve to be called inadequate. My child was ill from they got there until the time they left, because of the grubby toys, poor hygiene and poor nutrition, the food menu is very bad and the children are offered diluted squash and not wholesome fruit juice. Dont use if you value your childs health

The past

I myself know that the FSN had issues in the past but from February 2014 the new manager and chairperson have worked arduously with staff and parents to improve all areas of the nursery.there are new resources, new staff,no squash and good food on offer.i am happy with my toddler being there and impressed in how the attitudes have changed for the better. On an upward scale which keeps rising.
